7 Tips To Staying Active and Fit as a Father
Fatherhood is truly a demanding job. Not only do you have to be a father to your children, but you also need to balance other aspects of your life, such as work and play. Unfortunately, some things can end up in the backseat, such as your health! In fact, health and fitness are one of the most common aspects of life that falls behind when a person attains fatherhood. However, this is by no means that health is not important. Remember, when health is lost, all is lost. As such, it is crucial for you to stay active not only for your own well-being but to be a great example to your children.
So, how do you stay active even as a father? It's quite simple, actually! Here are the many ways to make sure you stay active as a dad:
Get Up and Move
Sitting for long periods of time is bad for your health, so make sure you get up and move around every hour. Take a walk around the block, do some stretches, or just march in place for a few minutes. Anything to get your blood flowing and your muscles moving.
Set Aside Time for a Workout
Working out doesn't have to be a huge time commitment. Even just 20-30 minutes a day can make a big difference. Set aside a little time each day for a quick workout, whether it's going for a run, doing some bodyweight exercises, or anything else that gets you moving. Make sure you have solid performance shorts for some of those more intense workouts!
Play With Your Kids
Playing with your kids is a great way to get some exercise while also spending quality time with them. Go for a bike ride, play tag, shoot some hoops, or just run around the backyard. They'll love it, and you'll get a workout too.
Join a Sports League or Just Play a Sport
Playing team sports is a great way to stay active and meet new people. There are adult sports leagues for just about every sport, so find one that interests you and join up. For us, we play a lot of golf! We even made our own DadBod Golf gear for our weekly trip to the green!
Take the Stairs
Whenever possible, take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator. It's a simple way to sneak some extra activity into your day, and they’ll seriously add up over time! A race up the stairs with the kids or even against your spouse is a good way to get the blood flowing.
If you have to work at a desk all day, consider getting a standing desk. It's a great way to reduce the amount of time you spend sitting down, and it's good for your health.
Use Alternative Ways to Get Around
If you usually take your car to go around places, such as to work or to nearby stores, you can consider using your bike instead. The added benefit to this is that you skip the traffic jams, meaning that if you find yourself getting to places like work a little too late because of the heavy jam, a bike can easily be your answer! If something is even closer, then try walking. Take the kids and make it into an adventure.
Conclusion
There are just so many ways to stay healthy and active as a dad, and even more than what we've shared already. Either way, making changes in life for the sake of health over convenience is something you'll have to do to become a healthier, happy father! Remember, you're a figure to your children, and you'd want them to grow up into healthy adults, right? If you find yourself falling behind in your well-being, make the change today.
